Shipping and packaging
Instructions
< back
You will need to provide
shipping labels for both directions. The return label, which will be
placed inside the box, will
require some additional calculation. Read on.
-
Number each 50',
200' or 400' film box or container, in the order in which you
wish them to be recorded, if that matters to you.
-
Prepackage and seal
the films in a plastic bag to protect from moisture and dust.
-
Also use bubble wrap
or other cushioning materials to protect from damage.
-
Place them in a box,
large enough to hold the original films plus the additional
media that will be coming back to you on the return trip.
-
Leave the box
unsealed for the
time being, until you can bring it to UPS, USPS or Fedex to have
it weighed and a shipping label produced for both directions.
Tell the clerk to add
additional weight for the return label cost.
I also recommend that you place
insurance on your
package for both directions, in case the films are lost of
damaged or stolen. I know that it is hard to place a value on
the films because they are likely to be priceless family
treasures.
(See below to determine additional weight (New
media) and also to help you size your shipping box)
-
Place the return
label inside the box with your check for payment for the
services. Once everything is calculated and enclosed, seal the
box.

New media weight and size
-
If you are sending
50' film reels, I will be splicing the film from (8) 50' reels
onto one new 400' film reel.
-
Note: 200' and 400'
reels will not be placed on larger reels.
I will simply replace the leader with a new leader to prevent
projector jams.
-
The original empty
reels and boxes will be returned to you in the same shipping
box.
-
You will receive (1)
1 hour DVD per approximately 800 feet of film, that is the
contents of (16) 50' film reels.
-
Each 400' reel with
protective cover, without the film weighs 5oz. (size:
diameter 7 in. x thickness .8 in.)

(NOTE: the film spliced on these reels has already been weighed
on the original 50' reels when they were originally shipped)
